Shells, clay coins and pot duang were used as legal tender before notes and coins.

For this same reason, it’s offensive to store notes in your back pocket.

Let's talk money

A holiday in Thailand can be jam-packed with fun activities without blowing your budget. The ATM fees in Thailand can get pretty high, so stock up on plenty of cash before you go. And be mindful to only withdraw decent amounts of baht, so you make the most of your travel money.

  • Use cash for street food and markets
  • Store your cash in separate places
  • Friendly haggling is fine at markets
  • “Too good to be true” deals often are
  • Massages are cheaper than you’d expect
  • Have clothing tailored for almost nothing
  • The biggest expenses are the activities (tours, water sports etc.)

Must do

Khao Yai  National Park
Trek, hike or bike trails with amazing wildlife such as elephants, deer and bears.
Bamboo rafting
Take a relaxing float down a river in Thailand on a bamboo raft. Calm, tranquil, and 100% awesome.
Grand Palace
You can’t go to Bangkok and not see their most famous (and spectacular) landmark.
Wat Phra That
Doi Suthep On top of a mountain sits one of their most sacred, ornate temples, with a rich history behind it.
Floating market
You certainly won’t see  one of these back at home. Don’t miss your chance to  pick up some groceries  a la boat.
