Grab your Vegemite - the Kiwi dollar is at a 17 month high against the AUD!

7th December 2018

I don’t mean to alarm anyone, but the Kiwi dollar is currently buying 0.9286 against the Australian dollar. Who am I kidding, I definitely mean to alarm you. This is the highest we have seen the Kiwi dollar against the AUD since July 2017.

But that’s not all… the Kiwi dollar is currently coming up tops against the USD, Canadian dollar, Euro, Pound + more.

To avoid missing out on cracking rates like this in future, why not sign up for Currency Alerts? We’ll let you know when the NZD hits your preferred rate against the currencies you're interested in.

What does this mean for you, the Kiwi traveller?

Well, if you’re heading across the ditch to celebrate the festive season in Australia (because the prospect of sweating through your Santa hat on Christmas day is worth it if it means some fresh prawns and backyard cricket), you’re going to need some Aussie cash.

Lets just say you are exchanging $2000NZD to AUD. If you purchased it this time last year, you would be taking $1724.60AUD over. Exchanging the same amount today will get you $1857.20AUD - a huge bonus of $130AUD. Strewth, that is a few kilos of prawns, 10 packets of Tim Tams to take home and at least 3 bottles of suncream.

Why are you still reading this? Don’t walk, RUN to your closest Travel Money NZ store and stock up on some Aussie cash, or buy your foreign cash anytime online.

Worried the rate is going to get better and you’ll miss out? Stress less, just add Rate Guard to your transaction in store and if the rate improves within 14 days, we’ll refund you the difference*.
